Lois Hofmeyer, 73, of Alton died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at her residence.

A funeral service was held on Monday, April 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Roger Voskuil officiated. Burial followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton, under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City.

Lois Jean was born June 28, 1927, at rural Alton, the daughter of Andrew and Christine (Ruisch) Van Der Maaten. She was raised at Alton where she graduated from high school.

On Sept. 2, 1947, she married Harvey Peter Hofmeyer at Alton. They farmed at Alton. In 1975, the couple moved into town. Harvey died January 22, 1988, at Orange City.

Mrs. Hofmeyer was a member of the Alton Reformed Church where she was active in the women's ministries and had sung in the choir. She was a homemaker and had been a bookkeeper at the Farmer's Elevator in Alton. In earlier years she enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include her three sons, Clifford Hofmeyer of Sioux City, Rodney Hofmeyer and his wife Jayne of Alton and Andrew Hofmeyer and his wife Vicki of Alton; two daughters and their husbands, June and Burton Kennedy of Greensboro, N.C. and Cindy and David Menning of Bloomington, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Van Der Maaten of Orange City; and a sister, Hendrine Brink of Rushmore, Minn.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Van Der Maaten.
