Son of John William and Amelia Andrew, of Swanland. Reference: Grave 141. Cemetery: NORTH FERRIBY (ALL SAINTS) CHURCHYARD

Sgt Pilot Stanley Andrew was born in Swanland in the East Riding of Yorkshire and attended Swanland School and the Technical College in Kingston upon Hull.

He was an Aircraft fitter with Blackburn Aircraft Co. Brough and joined the Royal Airforce Volunteer Reserve being called up on September 1st 1939 joining 46 Squadron [ Hurricanes ] at RAF Digby in Lincolnshire.

In May 1940 he was on board the Aircraft Carrier HMS Glorious and one of 10 pilots who flew from the Carrier over 100 miles to land in Norway. He flew a number of sorties and was evacuated by sea to rejoin his squadron at RAF Digby.

In the Battle of Britain he flew a number of sorties from Digby and they were then transferred to RAF Stapleford Tawney. a satellite to RAF North Weald Essex on September 1st.

On September 8th he claimed a German Dornier Bomber over Kent.

Sadly killed when returning from a sortie of Sepember 11th 1940
