Former Kirklin resident Della Davis James, 79, Kokomo, died at 5:25 a.m. September 8, 2001, in St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center there.

Mrs. James had lived in Clinton, Howard, Grant, Marion, Boone, and Montgomery counties. She was a 1941 graduate of Russellville high School and retired in 1982 from Mallory Controls in Frankfort after 15 years. She also had been a homemaker. She was a former member of the Kirklin Christian Church and a member of Chapel Hill Christian Church, Kokomo.

Mrs. James was born March 2, 1922, in Fountain County, to Arthur and Minnie Smith. She was adopted and raised by Ora and Nellie McGaughey. She has been married to Malcolm Young and Lawrence Davis. She married Milford James on December 18, 1993, and he survives.

Also surviving are a son, John David Young of Kokomo; four daughters, Carolyn Jean Dellinger and Alice Davis of Kirklin, Mrs. Jim (Jane) Moyer of Kokomo and Mrs. Don (Cathy) Riddle of Peru; a foster daughter, Kathryn Lapau of Georgia; a step-son, Paul James of Marion; two step-daughters, Phyllis Masiongale of Tennessee and Leatha Barkdull of Fairmount; a brother, Morris McGaughey of Ladoga; 41 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.

One son, three brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville, with Rev. Robert Longdon officiating.

Burial will be in Veneman Cemetery, near Forest.
