A native Californian, Fred was born in San Leandro. He served in the US Army during WWII as a combat medic in the 91st Infantry Division.
After Fred retired in 1983 from C&R Rubber Products, of which he was part owner, he devoted most of his time to volunteering in a variety of local community organizations, most notably the Zucchini Festival and the Walpert Center in Hayward.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy; children, Michael Alexander of San Ramon, Pam Phillips (Craig) of Kirkland, WA and Robyn Garrett (Ted) of Issaquah, WA and grandchildren Taryn & Annie Alexander, Adam & Matthew Garrett, Lauren & Kelsey Phillips and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Violet Pate of Havasu City, AZ; brother John Alexander of Fremont; and sister Laura Nettles of Pleasanton.
His generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday June 7th 1:00 PM at Cornerstone Fellowship (formally San Lorenzo Baptist Church) 180 Lewelling Blvd San Lorenzo, CA 94580.
