John Pawelchak, 80, died on Thursday April 17th, 2014 at St. Lucie Medical Center.

John was born and raised in Yonkers, NY and was of the Russian Orthodox faith.

He joined the US Navy at the age of 19 and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He went on to become a long-term employee of the US Postal Service and retired in good standing.

There is no service planned. John's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

Survivors include his best friend Connie Ashley-Bassett, his cousin Carole O'Connell and John's faithful dog Star.

John was predeceased by his father, Michael Pawelchak and mother Anna Pawelchak. He was widower of Lenora Pawelchak, his wife of 44 years who passed in 2009.

John was a friend of animals.
