JACKSON – Richard Lee Orcutt, 61, of Jackson, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at his home.


He was born Sept. 12, 1944, in Dixmont, a son of Clinton and Elsie Orcutt.


Richard retired after an industrial accident in 1996 after owning and operating "Dick's Electrical Service" for the previous 10 years. In his retirement, Richard fulfilled his love of music and taught himself to build acoustical instruments including a fiddle, banjo, mandolin and eight guitars. Richard proudly built a guitar for each of his three young granddaughters. He enjoyed spending time with his family, bluegrass music and politics. His life was marked by hard work, responsibility and a helping hand for his family whenever needed.


He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Clair Norris, Clinton Orcutt Jr., Billy Orcutt and Francis Orcutt.


Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gloria J. (Grant) Orcutt; a daughter, April J. Small and husband, Ken, of Veazie; a son, Alan L. and wife, Connie, of Mapleton; three granddaughters, Alannah L. Orcutt, Sydney G. Orcutt, and Sylvia M. Small; one brother, Ronald and wife, Gloria, of Dixmont; two sisters, Sylvia Orcutt and Roseline Collins, both of Orono; his mother and father-in-law, Clifton and Phyllis Grant of Jackson. He is also survived by four nieces and seven nephews.


A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with the Rev. Ken Davenport officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Jackson Corner Cemetery.
