DEATH: sometime between 1870-1880
AGE AT DEATH: somewhere between 6yrs & 15yrs old.
A little life forgotten...gone with the past, until one day I found you on a census record - I will bring your memory back...one small step at a time.
WHAT HAPPENED TO GUSTAVE?
My heart goes out to this young boy, there is only two documents in existence that show he once lived.
I cannot find any records showing when he died or where.
All I know is that he did once live........
We know that Gustave existed by the 1870 ship passenger list where he came over from Germany to the US with his parents and siblings, and the 1870 Census record showing him living in Milwaukee with his family. He is listed as 6 yrs old on both of these records, this indicates that he was born about 1864 in Prussia. However on the Wisconsin 1875 census record, there are only 5 males listed in the household – this would include Christian Sr, Fredrick, Charles, Christian Jr, and August who was born 9/26/1874. If Gustav is not one of the males listed in the Wisconsin 1875 census record, then this means he died prior to the 1875 Wisconsin census, which means he was somewhere between 6 and 10 yrs old when he died sometime between 1870 and 1875. Another theory is that perhaps Gustav is included in the 1875 census, and his youngest brother August an infant at the time - is not? We know that Gustav was not included in the 1880 Census record, or any thereafter – so we know forsure he died sometime prior to the 1880 census being taken, but after the 1870 census was taken. The next question is – did Gustav die while they were living in Milwaukee, or Westfield? Since we are uncertain of how long they stayed in Milwaukee after arriving there in 1870 before settling in Westfield, it is hard to say which of the two towns Gustav died in. I cannot find a death record for him, so I am looking into other options to try and find his death information, and hopefully someday we will know when he died, and perhaps with further research we can find out why he died so young.
