Alvera B. Shaw, 72, of Bloomington, died Saturday, May 26, 2001.

She was a school teacher and librarian, finishing her career at Seymour Middle School and retiring to Bloomington in 1979 with her husband, retired Seymour High School principal David R. Shaw, and he survives. She held a bachelor of arts degree in education from Indiana Central College and a master's degree in library science from Butler University. She began her teaching career at Fort Wayne Central High School in 1950, and taught English at Woodview Junior High School in Indianapolis for eight years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Bloomington where she served as a part-time receptionist. She was also a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers association, the Monroe County Retired Teachers Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

She is also survived by two sons, David J. Shaw of Indianapolis and Norman S. Shaw of Memphis; a daughter, Ellynn Stein of Fishers; a sister, Joanne Lantz of Fort Wayne; a brother, William Baldwin of Gary; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
