Janice K. Barber, 86, of 155 Clover Ridge Drive in Eastwood died Friday at Community-General Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Barber was a life resident of Syracuse and was a 1930 graduate of the Syracuse Normal School. She was a kindergarten teacher for 34 years, teaching for 33 years at Taft Elementary School in Eastwood and one year at Salem-Hyde Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1962. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Syracuse, where she taught Sunday school and was active in its women's group.
Her husband of 52 years, A. Dudley Barber, died in 1982.
Surviving are a son, Dick of DeWitt; two grandchildren, Steven and Douglas of DeWitt; and a niece and nephew.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Syracuse with Rev. Scott Kavanagh officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Boulevard East.
