Abel Jones was listed on the 1875, 1880, & 1885 census reports in Avon Township of Coffey County, Kansas. A GAR record from 1883, Allison Post # 16, at Burlington records his military service in the 28th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted in Co. G, as a Private in August of 1862 and received a disability discharge in November of 1862.

The 1880 census lists Abel with his wife, Cornelia, J., age 31, born in Illinois. Abel Jones and Cornelia Rooney married 1 Oct 1867. (Coffey County Marriage Index) Their children in 1880 were listed as Etta, 11; Cass, a son, 9; Libbie, 7; & Aaron, a son, 5. Lewis Jones, a brother of Abel, was also living with the family, age 42. Lewis had served in Co. H, 38th Ohio Infantry and is buried in Grant County, Indiana.

Abel and Cornelia Jones were living in Ottawa, Franklin, Kansas in 1900. Their son, Aaron, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, is buried there. Abel was listed as a widower in 1905 and 1910 with his daughter, Addie (Mrs. Benjamin) Wilcox. They were listed in Avon Township of Coffey County in 1910. Abel was listed as age 69. Able Jones was listed as age 79 with his widowed daughter, Libbie Laird, on the 1920 Marian, Polk, Missouri census. Family information from Ancestry.com records his death date and location.
