Auto Race Car Driver. Born in 1909 at Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, Germany, he started off racing on sidecars before progressing on to four wheels. He got a job as a mechanic with the Experimental Department at Daimler-Benz which involved him testing the cars. He went on to become Luigi Fagioli's racing mechanic and more testing. Neubauer had heard about the new mechanic with a racing background and gave him the chance to test the GP cars. However this led to disagreements with the other drivers Rudi Caracciola and Manfred von Brauchitsch who did not make the upstart mechanic welcome. By 1937 the 'Silver Arrows' would consist of the two senior drivers of Caracciola and von Brauchitsch, and the junior drivers of Lang and Englishman Dick Seaman. Lang was as successful as the other drivers except in the rain, conditions which he did not like. World War II caused a halt to all racing but he later returned, and his final success was a win for Mercedes in the 1952 Le Man 24 Hours race.
