Jane (Gray) Eakin, 87, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Hancock Regional Hospice in Greenfield. She was born November 10, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late Ralph and Ruth (McIlvaine) Gray and graduated from Greenfield Central High School before attending Purdue University. She worked for Eli Lilly, International Harvester and was a dairy farmer before working for the Greenfield Daily Reporter later in life. She attended Carthage Friends Church, was a member of the Mile Square Gang quilters and enjoyed Indian culture and reading non-fiction literature. Jane is survived by her children: Diane (Fred Mayberry) Eakin Janot of Mohawk, Kevin (Charlotte) Eakin of Carthage, and Denise Eakin (Bryan) Westhoff of North Pole, AK; grandchildren: Basil K. Eakin, Danette Bell, Inga-lill, Birgitta and Urika Karlsson, and John Bocephus Phillips and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Basil H. "Babe" Eakin in 1965.

Friends may call on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 10:00am until 12:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A graveside service will immediately follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
