Manito, IL - Vernie Ethell, 99, of 1112 Court St., Pekin, formerly of Manito, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 1995, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Feb. 4, 1896, in McLean to Elmer Ellsworth and Margaret Anna Tallon Ethell, he married Jessie V. Clauser on Dec. 24, 1919, in Bloomington. She died Jan. 18, 1985.

Five brothers also preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Dale of Galesburg; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Alpha) Schumm of Manito; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A member of Mason County Farm Bureau, he farmed in the Manito area all his life.

A World War I Army veteran, he was a member of Hill- Palmer American Legion Post in Manito. He also was a member of Manito-Forest City Optimist Club and United Methodist Church of Manito.

He was a former Hickory Grove school board member.

Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by his American Legion post.
