"Iron" Cook, 70, Dies At Home
Leonidaus "Iron" Cook, 79, prominent Stanford colored man died at his home in Stanford, Friday, April 20th, at 10:30 am. He had lived in Stanford all his life, and for many years he had carried the mail from the Post Office to the Depot, for 26 years, under contract with the Postal Department.
He had many friends among both races in Lincoln County. He was a member of the Baptist Church, of which he was a trustee for many years. He was President of the church choir.
He led a vigorous life, but several month ago his health began to fall, and he had to give up his many duties.
Funeral services were held at the Colored Baptist Church in Stanford, Tuesday , April 24th, with the Rev E.D. Smith and The Rev O. Talbert of Shelbyville officiating. Arrangements were in the hands of the Adams Funeral home. Burial followed in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Flora Cook, two daughters, Mrs. J. O. Talbert, Shelbyvllle, Mrs. Leo Palmer, Detroit; one-son Bennle Cook, of New York; three sisters Mrs. F. E. Stepp, Stanford. Mrs. Bessie Campbell, Crab Orchard, Mrs. Mary S. Luss, Lexington, and one brother, Cornelius cook, Stanford.
