Marianne Leydig Casey
(October 29, 1940 - May 3, 2014)

Marianne Leydig Casey, 73, of Greeneville, TN passed away at Laughlin Memorial Hospital on May 3, 2014 after a long illness. Marianne was born October 29, 1940 to the late Harry Elsworth Leydig and Alma Kugler Leydig Kellner in Jeannette, PA. She married C. Edwin Casey, and the couple then moved to Decatur Alabama, where their three sons were born before moving to Greeneville in 1968. She spent many years as a mother/homemaker before returning to work at Frontier Health where she retired. Marianne loved The Little Theatre in Greeneville and was active performing and directing for many years. Her special love was with the Children's Theatre. Her greatest joy, though, came from her family and her dogs. Everyone knew they were welcome at her Thanksgiving table which often hosted many more people than the furniture could bear. This holiday also became famous for its "dog picture" – an annual photograph in which the dogs were the focus and people could not participate unless they had a dog in their lap...and most of the families had at least one dog. The family attended St. James Episcopal Church in Greeneville. Marianne is survived by her sons, Mark Darr Casey of Norris, TN; and Matthew Christopher Casey of Greeneville; her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Ferrell Casey of Norris, TN; her granddaughters Sarah and Caroline Casey, of Norris, Lindsay Casey of Greeneville and Madison Rose Casey of Lawrenceville, Georgia, her great-granddaughter Adeline of Knoxville, and her great grandson Hudson, of Knoxville; her sister-in-law Glenda Hohn Leydig of Greeneville; her nieces Kristin Leydig Bryant of Atlanta, GA, and Megan Leydig Lappas of Knoxville, TN; two great nieces Mia Whitmore and Barley Lappas of Knoxville, TN, and her Boston Terrier, Theo. She will also be missed by cousins and many friends in Greeneville, Pennsylvania, and other parts of the country. Marianne was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, C. Edwin Casey of Greeneville, her son, Michael Edwin Casey of Atlanta, GA, and her brother, Harry Michael "Buss" Leydig of Greeneville. The family will receive friends at Doughty Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville from 2-4 PM on Saturday, May 10. 2014 with a memorial service following at 4:00 PM at Doughty Stevens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Greene County Humane Society; P.O. Box 792, Greeneville, TN 37743; or to St. Judes Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
