Caroline was the daughter of Robert William White and Lillian Miller McCourt. She was named after her grandmother Caroline Thon Miller and her aunt Caroline Miller Colsher.

She was married to Richard Vivian Fitz-Gerald on December 29 1945 at the Visitation Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia. They were married while Richard was on furlough from the United States Navy. According to their only daughter, it was not a happy marriage. Caroline was only 52 years old when she died. Richard remarried after her death.

She was the mother of three sons and one daughter, all living except William J. Fitzgerald. Caroline is buried with her sisters Lorraine White (1927-1927) and Lillian White (1930-1931).
