Dena graduated from Cawker City High School and received her Teaching Certificate from Fort Hays State University. She taught for several years in the Cawker City area. On December 24, 1936, she married Dale Wilson in McPherson, Kansas. After their marriage, Dena worked as the bookkeeper for Dale's elevator construction business. Dena moved to Garden City in 1973 and became the bookkeeper for Mounts Oil Company. She enjoyed reading, watching sports especially KU athletics and she loved being a Grandmother to her Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Dale who died on September 1, 1970. She is also preceded in death by her parents, a Grandson Marshall Mounts, a Son-In-Law Greg Lane, and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, a son, a brother, two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City, Kansas with Rev. R. Glenn Patterson officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m.t o 8:00 p.m. Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo or to the Salvation Army both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
