He was born on September 27, 1933 in Reedsville, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Robinson) Schmidt.
He entered the United States Army in April of 1953 serving in Korean War.
He was discharged in 1955, when he began working in the Manitowoc Ship Yards. He then began working for Wheller Cheese in Green Bay later being transferred to Plymouth where he worked at the Borden's Company retiring in 1994.
He married Mary Jane Kornetzky on July 26, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Plymouth. He was a member of the World's Cheese Center VFW Post .
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Schmidt of Plymouth, 3 children, Sue Rae Stevenson of Sheboygan, Dale (Peggy) Schmidt of Plymouth, Steven (Kelli) of Haslett, TX, 7 grandchildren, Vanessa, Elliott, Amanda, Alyssa, Shanna, Shelby, and Trent, and the apple of Donald's eye one great granddaughter, Ella Rae, 4 brothers, Art Schmidt of Whitelaw, Eugene (Betty) Schmidt of Brillion, Paul (Beverly) Schmidt of Manitowoc, and John Schmidt of Manitowoc, and two sisters Everilda Tarbox of Manitowoc, Mary Ann (Ronald) Kuusisto of Menasha, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Schmidt of Silver Cliff, WI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Brian and Jeffrey Schmidt, a brother, Loyle Schmidt, and a sister Norma Behnke.
