Anne Henry Welles, age 94, of Horseheads, NY, passed away on November 11, 2010.

She is survived by her sister, Marianne (Mimi) Pfaelzer of Santa Barbara, CA; her children Gillett (Tim) Welles III and his wife Paddy of Horseheads, NY, Peter Swift Welles and his wife Sondra of Owings Mills, MD, and Michael Henry Welles and his wife Leslie Price of Framingham, MA; her grandchildren Gillett Henry Welles , Eric Cordonnier Welles , Amanda Carder Welles , Christina Welles Maron, Alexander Pearson Welles , and Nicholas Carder Welles ; and eight great grandchildren.

Anne was born in Corning, NY on December 8, 1915, daughter of Lewis Henry and Marianne Olcott Henry of Elmira, NY. She attended Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, MA and Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.

She married Gillett Welles , Jr. of Hudson, OH on October 3, 1936. They resided most of the rest of their lives (60 years!) on their beloved farm on Mt. Zoar Hill in the Town of Southport.

Anne was an indispensable partner to her husband in The Welles Supply Co., Inc., an industrial supply business founded in 1948 and still successful today in its Elmira Heights location. She handled the financial books for the company and deftly managed the office.

Anne was well known for her cheerful personality, and her love of birds, wild animals and plants.

She was an active member of the Friends of the Steele Memorial Library and was especially remembered for her Friday lunch book review introductions.

She was also active in the Arnot Ogden Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering countless hours. Her smiling face was always welcome as she made her rounds helping and cheering up the patients.

Anne and her husband Gillett were members of the Elmira City Club and the Elmira Country Club.

Following her husband's death in 2004, Anne moved to Bethany/Appleridge in Horseheads where she became close friends with Ted Hodge, the "Radio Voice of NY", who also resides at Bethany.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Foundation, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira, NY 14905 are requested.

Arrangements are by the Baker Family Funeral Home. A private ceremony is planned for the family.
