Richard A. Wogsland,86, Walum, N.D., died Friday in Cooperstown (N.D.) Medical Center.
Dick was born June 27, 1916 to Andrew and Florence (Zingg) Wogsland in Walum, ND. He graduated from the Walum Elementary School in 1930 and Hannaford (ND) High School in 1934. Later he moved to Seattle and worked in the shipyards there.
In 1942, Dick was inducted into the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II. On May 2, 1944, he married Evelyn Jenner in Moorhead, MN. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, they moved back to Walum, where they farmed the family farm with Dick‘s brother Vernon for over 40 years.
Dick was a lifelong member of the Mervin J. Armstrong American Legion Post #113, as well as member of the American Legion‘s 40/8 Club. He also was a member of the Eagles, Elks, Masons, and the Hannaford Conservation and Wildlife Club. Dick served as township clerk of Greenfield Township in Griggs County and was also an organizer of the National Farmers Organization. For many years, until he became unable to do so, Dick tended to the Veterans‘ graves at St. Olaf Cemetery every Memorial Day.
Dick loved his family, his farm, and his friends. When he was able, he enjoyed driving around checking the crops, making sure everything was going just right. Dick especially loved being around his grandchildren, treating them to stories and helping them in any way he could.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn, of Walum, ND; one son Dan and his wife Deb of Cooperstown, ND; and his grandchildren Amber, Adam, and Aric, all of Cooperstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Andrew; and his brothers and sisters, Grace, Cliff, Ray, Alberta, Florence, Louella, Ruth, Vernon, and Doris.
