Almeda S. Freeman was born in Tennessee in April 1826 to North Carolina born parents, Littleberry B. Freeman and wife Elizabeth Young Freeman.

The family moved to Cass County, Illinois and that is where Almeda married Jeremiah Cox the 24th of Aug. 1842. 6 Children were born to this union, the four named in census records were William J., Pairlee S., Albert J., and George C. Cox.

The Cox family made their home in Illinois, with most of the years being in Cass County. In the 1860 census, the family was living in Astoria, Fulton County, however by 1870 had returned to Cass County.

Following the death of her husband, Jeremiah, in 1876, Mrs. Cox, lived with daughter Pairlee Fox and her husband Martin and their children Albert W. and John L. Fox. Son George Cox also lived with them for a time.

Almeda passed away in March of 1910. She was survived by daughter Pairlee and son George Cox.

Burial was in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, Cass County, Illinois and Almeda shares a grave marker with the following:
Jeremiah Cox: May 23, 1818 - March 30, 1870 (husband)
William, son of J. & A. Cox. Died Aug. 31, 1869 (son)
Albert, son of J. & A. Cox. Died: ??? (son)
ALBERT A. W. FOX 1860 - 1886 (grandson)
Pairlee Fox Dau. of J. and A. Cox Died Dec. 31, 1920 aged 75 Y & 13 Ds.
