Henry D. Freeman was the son of Littleberry Freeman and Elizabeth Young. He was an officer with the 114th Illinois. Captured at the Battle of Brice Crossroads in Guntown, Mississippi, he made his escape by jumping off the train that was taking him to Andersonville Prison. Henry married Sophia Bassett and they had three daughters: Anna Elizabeth who died as a child; Anna Bernice who lived until 1953 and Grace Elizabeth who lived for 100 years.
