Vernis C. Driskell, born 12/24/1921, went to her eternal home on Sunday, May 25, 2014.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester Driskell.

Vernis, born near Childress, TX, lived for 60+ years in Abilene, where she and her husband were active members of University Baptist Church. There, Vernis served The Lord working with youth, young adults and women in Bible Drill, YWCA and WMU. Following Chester's death, she volunteered with the Mission Service Corp of the Southern Baptist Convention, with assignments in Huntsville, Austin, and Houston, TX, where her first love on these assignments was leading children to The Lord.

In recent years, she has lived in the Houston area to be near her daughters, Sara and June.

She is survived by her son, Guy Driskell and wife, Peggy; daughters, Sara Powers and husband, Harrell, and June Hinson and husband, Randy; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:30a.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery with Billy Spencer officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene.
