Mrs. Alfreda Bell, 91, wife of the late Leslie Purvis Bell for 64 years and a resident of Virginia Beach, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014. Born July 4, 1922 in Pittsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leopold Joseph Hermanowicz and Francin Mamajak Hermanowicz.After 3 years of service in the Navy during WWII as a Specialist producing topographical maps for pilots, she held a variety of paid and volunteer positions including working at the Amphibious Base Thrift Shop, St. Gregory's Thrift Shop and as a Red Cross Gray Lady.. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia B. Filipowski of Norfolk, Va, Winifred Dunn of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Thomas Hermanowicz of McKee Rocks, Pa, a sister, Laverne Schneider of Pittsburg, Pa.; six grandchildren, Christine, Thomas, Michael, Jessica, Peter, Leslie Michael; eight great grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel, Shaun, Evan, Anna, Cortland, Beckham, Aniken; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Sachon.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. The interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

A visitation will be held Tuesday evening at the Woodlawn Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m.
