Ernest Parker
April 11, 1920—Dec. 24, 2005

Ernest Parker, 85, of Shell Lake died Dec. 24 at Spooner Health System. Funjeral services were Thursday morning at Lake Park Alliance Church in Shell Lake, with the Rev. John Sahlstrom officiating and burial at Shell Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Parker was born April 11, 1920 in the Town of Madge to Fredrick and Margaret (Mullen) Parker. The family moved to New Knapp Road, Shell Lake several years later and moved across the road when their home was destroyed by fire. Mr. Parker attended Shell Lake School until midway through his senior year, when he went to work on a farm. Two years later he started working at the Shell Lake grocery store, where he met Maude Decker in 1939. They were married in Pine City, Minn., on March 28, 1940. Mr. Parker worked in the shipping yards of Duluth, Minn., until he was drafted into the Navy. The Parkers moved to Madison in 1945, and Mr. Parker worked for the State of Wisconsin for a few years before becoming a professional painter. The couple owned and operated the Capital Bar and Bowling Alley in Shell Lake from 1968-1972. They then moved to Las Vegas to be near one of their daughters, and Mr. Parker painted houses and motels while Mrs. Parker was a cook for the local school system. Three years later they returned to Shell Lake and bought the Swiss Chalet. The Parkers sold the business after 1 year, built their home on Hwy. K and lived there until selling it and moving to town in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Maude; three daughters, Linda Hagen of Fort Wayne, Ind., Sally Elder of Steelville, Mo., and Lilah Dougard of Shell Lake; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Parker’s daughter Susan preceded him in death.
