Hubert, the son of Hubert and Ollie Botts Patterson, was a native of Blue Ridge, Georgia, but spent most of his life in Polk County. His siblings who are deceased were Delmar, Elbert, Elmer and Gilbert, and a sister, Jean Roland.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Naomi Ballew Patterson; sons Mikel, Benny, Jeff, and a daughter, Vicky Pitcock. Also surviving are sisters June Catlett, Jessie Powell, Regina Mock and Joann Weber; brothers Bobby, C.J., and Jewell Patterson.

He was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.
