Elizabeth Flinton was born 1598 in England, She married Joseph S. Cobbs in 1609 and two sons were born before Joseph S. joined the migration of British males to the British colonies in America. Life in the early colonies was dangerous and difficult and few women accompanied the men in the earlier settlement of Jamestown. Elizabeth and her sons waited over ten years before joining Joseph S. in America. Elizabeth and her sons may have crossed the ocean to join him or he may have returned to England and brought them to the colony of Virginia. The family settled on Goose Hill in Isle of Wight where three more children were born - two sons and a daughter.
