Note:

The date of birth on the gravestone does not match the date of birth on his death certificate of August 23, 1867 and thus reported to the newspaper. There is some confusion as the informant on the death certificate was his wife, Annie and one would assume she reported his birthday correctly; however, given his sister's birth in February of 1867 this date cannot be correct for John. The date of 18 September 1868 is from handed down family records.

John was a taxidermist in Van Ormer, PA. He was a man of many trades and talents and built his own home. He was the first to put running water and electric power in his home in Van Ormer, PA. He was tutored to the 12th grade. A very good woodsman and well traveled. He went to Cheyenne, Wyoming after the gold rush and returned back to PA.

When John and Sarah's daughter Edna gave birth to triplets, baby Dorothy came to live with her grandparents, Irene passed and Evelyn lived with her parents. Edna and her husband Jack brought 14 children into the world. Upon Edna's passing with the birth and loss of twins, the youngest boy James went to live with Sarah and John. The other children remained with their father Jack.

(These are stories handed down in the family.)
