Mrs. Charles F. Sutton, 74, of 1544 W. Cook, Springfield, Ill., a native of the Milton area, died early Saturday at Springfield Medical Center after a long illness.

The former Constance Bennett was born Dec. 7, 1901, in Lima township, Rock County, the daughter of James B. and Dollie Brown Bennett and was a 1924 graduate of Milton College. She taught English and library courses at Hartford High School for two years before her marriage in Milton June 22, 1926 to Dr. George Sutton, also a Milton College graduate.

While her husband completed his medical studies she was a librarian at Battle Creek, Mich., and the University of Chicago Bio-Medical Library. They later lived in Chillicothe, Ill., and in Springfield since 1947 when Dr. Sutton was discharged from World War II service with the Medical Corps. He was associated with the Illinois State Public Health Department until his recent retirement.

Mrs. Sutton was a member of First Congregational Church, Springfield, and the Sangamon County Medical Society Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband; and two sisters, Mrs. J. Fred (Mizpah) Whitford, Milton, and Mrs. Harold C. (Clarice) Burdick, Raytown, Mo.

Preceding her in death were two brothers and four sisters.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton with Earl Cruzan, Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Milton Cemetery with Russell Burdick, Arthur Drake, Howard Drake and J. Paul Green as pallbearers.
