Velma L. Beaver Lindquist, 91, passed from this world into Paradise on June 8, 2014, after a long illness.

Velma was born in Cyclone, MO, on June 23, 1922, to Luella Forbes Beaver and John Beaver. Because Velma's mother passed away when she was very young and her father was a traveling minister, Velma was raised by her maternal grandmother, Julia Forbes. Velma attended Poplar Hill School, near Cyclone, and Pineville High School.

As a young woman, Velma's life exemplified high moral standards, Christian living, and service to others. Velma was known for her selflessness and was often described by others as "an angel on earth."

Velma met William Lindquist when she went to the Cyclone Post Office to check her mail. A courtship followed and Bill and Velma were wed on March 20, 1942, in Mano, MO.

In her adulthood, Velma was a homemaker and farmer, Mother Extraordinaire, and she worked in Marketing for Cooper Communities in Bella Vista, AR. Velma moved to Joplin, MO, in 1978, where she was a care-giver for the elderly. Velma's work was meticulous, comforting, and kind. She moved back to McDonald County in 2004.

Velma was a wonderful gardener, an excellent cook, and her door was always open to welcome family and friends. She was a gracious hostess who provided love and home-cooked meals to all who entered her door. She had an active card ministry, Velma's church was important in her life, and she said the best thing she ever did was "being a mother."

Velma wrote poetry and had works published. She was a charter member of the Snickle Club and a member of her Sunday School Friendship Club.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents and grandmother, husband, grandson Todd Crosswhite, and fourteen brothers and sisters.

Survivors include Vehrlene Crosswhite and husband, Roger, Powell, MO; Linda Lindquist Baldwin and husband, Bill Cearnal, Joplin, MO; Keith Lindquist and wife, Norma, Southwest City, MO; Janie Lindquist and husband David Mott, Marble Falls, AR; and Mark Lindquist and his wife, Carolyn, Southwest City, MO. Velma is also survived by 7 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many beloved friends.

Velma's loving personality and kindness changed lives. She will always be cherished and missed by those fortunate enough to know and love her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lindquist are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri with Arlis Thrasher, Dennis Thrasher and Rob Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery near Stella, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Troy Crosswhite, Seth Baldwin, Kip Lindquist, David Mott, Roger Crosswhite, Creed Lindquist and Bill Cearnal. Dave Meador and Lee Oakes will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
