Funeral services were held Friday, August 10, for Carl Magnuson at the Engstrom Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock p.m. and at the St. Lukes Lutheran church in Garfield, at 2:00 o'clock p.m., with Dr. Oscar O. Gustafson officiating. The pallbearers were Oscar Lindquist, Carl Norling, Oscar Johnson, Ludwig Erickson, Hans Helgeson and Elmer Anderson. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
Carl Magnuson passed away Monday, August 6, 1951 at St. Lukes hospital in Alexandria following an illness of about three years.
Carl Magnuson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Johnson was born April 8, 1880 in Värmland, Sweden and was 71 years, 3 months and 28 days of age at the time of his death. He grew to manhood in Sweden and immigrated to America on June 14, 1902 coming to Alexandria, and he later homesteaded in Williston, N.D.
On June 23, 1917 in La Grand Township he was married to Hulda Johnson, who survives him. Since their marriage they have made their home in Douglas County. He has served as Chairman of the School Board in District No. 88 for nine years. Mrs. Magnuson was baptized and confirmed in Sweden.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Willis Bartholomew (Edith) of Barrett, Mrs. Vernon Peterson (Mildred) of Brandon and Mrs. Karl Glade Jr. (Helen) of Alexandria, six grandchildren, two brothers Fred Magnuson of La Grand Township, and Alfred Magnuson in Sweden, and one sister, Mrs. Victor Olson (Betty) of Marinette, Wisconsin. His parents and two brothers (Per Adolf and Gustaf Magnuson) preceded him in death.
