Jo was born in Sydney to Harold and Grace Stinger on Feb. 27, 1935. She was the middle child of eight girls and one boy. She moved to the Flathead Valley when she was 6 years old and attended Whitefish schools.

She married George Carter on April 1, 1955. Her married life involved a lot of traveling and moving, much to her delight. She had two children, Shelly and Mitch, both born in Whitefish. The traveling/moving continued with both kids in tow. After the loss of her loving husband to a heart attack in 1981, she moved back to Whitefish to be closer to her family and good friend, Bertha.

In 1983, she married Frank Brousseau. They summered in the Flathead Valley and wintered in the Arizona/Nevada area until her health prevented the constant travel. Jo and Frank divorced after 16 years of marriage but remained good friends until he passed away several years later. After the divorce, Jo moved into an apartment in Kalispell right across the hall from her best friend Bertha until her last few years spent at the Brendan House.

She enjoyed camping, reading, playing cards, recipes, jokes and crafts, all of which she passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. More than anything, she just wanted to be with family. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and, of course, her always faithful, lifelong friend Bertha.

She leaves behind daughter, Shelly, and Larry Carver; son, Mitch Carter; sisters, Ella and Chet Hill, Madonna and Dale Barber, Marsha and Jim Hunnewell, and Carla (Bob, deceased) Corbally; grandchildren, Michelle and Kelsey Klundt, Nick and Sarah Carver, Kasey Carter and Chris Harrison, and Zac Carter; and great-grandchildren, Kayla and Kaden Klundt, Kendal and baby-on-the-way Cole Harrison; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too many to mention, but all dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Grace Stinger; siblings, Doris (Lloyd) LaVoy, Carolyn McConville, Dale Stinger and Cheryl Rounds; and husbands, George Carter and Frank Brousseau.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, at the Whitefish Cemetery.
