"Melvin Homer Alderman, 65, died May 5, 1942, at his home near Brookfield after a long illness. He was born near South Hamilton March 28, 1877, a son of Homer and Sarah Burdick Alderman. He married Lena Ciperly on June 2, 1901. She died Nov. 28, 1914. To them were born three sons, one of whom was killed in August 1931. On May 10, 1924, he married Julia Clarke. He has spent most of his life as a farmer in this vicinity. Besides his wife, he leaves his mother, Mrs. Herbert Chesebro, of Brookfield; two sons by his first wife, Ai, North Brookfield, Germaine, Brookfield; two sons, Melvin Jr. and Claire, by his second marriage; three sisters, Mrs. William Abrams, Brookfield, Mrs. Carl Tompkins, Norwich, Mrs. Theron Denison, Sherburne; two grandsons, George and Glenn Alderman, North Brookfield. The funeral was held Thursday, May 7, at the home of his son, Ai, at North Brookfield, with the Rev. Clough officiating. Burial was made in the Brookfield Cemetery."
