George came from New York State to Monroe County in 1847. he purchased 240 acres in section 19 of New Haven Township. He hired other parties to do the clearing and set up the thownship's first saw mill on Six-Mile Creek, which was run profitably for several years. He divided this land up among his children and bought a farm of 90 acres in Section 18. He and his sons were very active in township politics, serving in various positions.

Son of George Ott (1783-1802) and Catherine Colts (1787- ), both born in Somerset County, PA and George also died there. Catherine's death date and location are unknown. His brother was John Ott (1802- ), died Shiawassee County, MI.
