Samuel Bashour went to be with his Lord on June 14, 2014. He was preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters, and will be dearly missed by his three children, Charles Allen Bashour, MD (Janie) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Sara Louise Klinke (Preston) of Memphis, TN, and Mary Ann Randolph, JD (Mark) of San Antonio, TX, and his eleven grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Sam was born to Sara and Bashour Bashour, M.D., in Safita, Syria on February 20, 1920, and raised in Safita. Sam attended Tripoli Evangelical School in Tripoli, Lebanon, and obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon, and General Surgery residency at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. He served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for two years at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, N.M as the base surgeon before settling in Irving, TX where he practiced surgery for over 30 years. He devotedly raised his family and contributed many hours of service to his community. He was an Elder at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Past President of the Irving Rotary Club and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a founding member and First President of the Irving Surgical Society, a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, a 50 Year Club member of the Texas Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Clinical Instructor in Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical School, and the third President of the Staff of Irving Community Hospital. He was a member of Las Colinas Country Club. Integrity, honor, courage, and commitment were the foundations of his character. He was generous in service to others, and loved and admired by family, patients, friends and colleagues. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday at Brown's Memorial. A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, 1621 West Grauwyler Road, Irving, TX, 75061 on June 21, 2014 beginning at 10AM and interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas TX, 75225. Brown-Forward Funeral Home of Shaker Heights was entrusted to assist the family in Ohio.
