William N. "Buck" Hampton was born on November 4, 1859, in Carroll County, Tennessee, the first child of Noah Wesley and Lucinda Hatch Hampton. During the 1870s his parents, as well as several aunts and uncles, moved the family to Greene County, Arkansas. He was only child for ten years; he later had a brother, James Haywood, and sister, Magnolia Hampton Rutledge. After his mother's death in the 1880s, his father remarried and had three more children; they were the age of Buck's younger children.

Buck married Dora Belle Hamilton on the day after her fifteenth birthday, August 12, 1880. He was twenty. They settled in the Hurricane Township area (near Marmaduke) and raised nine children: Aurora "Dailey", Maudie, William David Wesley "West" (my great-great-grandfather), Calvin Pressley "Press", Erbine "Erby", Ezra, Elbert "Ebb", Vera, and Viva.

Dora died in 1919. Buck lived until 1928, spending the last couple of years living with his oldest son West. Many of their descendents still live in the area.
