Noah Sinks was an Ohio native, born in 1824. In 1857 he moved to Minnesota and was involved in the steamboat business. In 1861 he was hired to supervise the government warehouses at the Upper and Lower Sioux Agencies on the upper Minnesota River. He was at the Upper Sioux Agency when the Dakota Uprising of 1862 began. Sinks, his wife, and two children were among the more than 60 refugees who were protected and then guided to safety by John Other Day. Later, he worked on claims resulting from the Dakota Conflict. By 1864 he had returned to the steamboat business. Sinks died at St.Paul in 1901.
