Championship Tennis Player. An American female tennis player, she won the women's single's titles at the 1899 & 1902 U.S. Championships. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2006. At the 1900 Summer Olympics she was the first American woman to win an Olympic medal. She was also the first non British woman to play at Wimbledon. For over 40 years she lived in Greenwich Village, Manhattan with her architect husband and was well known as a violinist and voice coach. For a time she was head of the New York Chamber Opera and also translated opera librettos. In 1961 she returned to Los Angeles. Marion Jones was the daughter of Nevada Senator John Percival Jones, co-founder of the city of Santa Monica.
