Ada Sumpter Foster, daughter of the late Ollie and Annie Sumpter departed this life on Thursday, June 19th at her home. She was born October 26, 1926 in Georgetown County.

Ada received her formative education from Mt. Olive SDA Church School. After graduating high school, she enrolled in Roper Medical College in Charleston, SC. where she received her degree to become an LPN. She then moved to North Carolina where she worked for awhile before moving to New York. Ada was a very intelligent young woman with many goals and aspirations. Due to her desire to further her education, she attended New York City College graduating as a Registered Nurse. She worked at several hospitals and because of her expertise in her field; she later became the assistant administrator at Hebrew Nursing Home in Riverdale, New York. She worked there until her retirement.

While in New York, she met the love of her life, Joseph Foster. They were united in holy matrimony and shared 65 years together.

At an early age, she developed a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and became a baptized member of Mt. Olive Seventh-day Adventist Church. Upon moving to New York, she faithfully attended City Tabernacle SDA Church in Manhattan, NY. She was an active member and served as Sabbath School Teacher, Sabbath School Superintendent, member of the Medical Corps, and chairman of the Education Department, Hospitability Committee, and Kitchen Committee. Ada also organized the SOY Club (Save Our Youth). Upon retiring and moving back to her home church, she served as a Deaconess and Disabilities Coordinator.

Retiring was an end to one phase of her life, but the beginning of fulfilling her life long dream: building and operating Ada Foster's Residential Care. Ada loved the Lord and loved her family. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, cooking, helping people and talking.

Ada was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Sumpter and one son, Thomas Edward Sumpter.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Joseph Foster; a loving daughter-in-law, Laura Sumpter of Boston, MA; four grandchildren: Edward Sumpter, Michael Sumpter, Roger (Lisa) Sumpter, and Tanya Sumpter all of Boston, MA; eight great grands; four great great grands; a special nephew Anthony Rogers of New Jersey; one she called her "adopted daughter", Mary Holmes of Georgetown, SC; and many other relatives and friends.
