Alice Ruth (Kennedy) Rife, age 78 of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia gently passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at a local area hospital following a lengthy illness.Born in Jolo, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ida Wimmer Kennedy.
Alice owned and operated Rifes Grocery Store in the Pilgrims Knob area for over 30 years and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She treasured her time spent caring for her family, knitting, crocheting and piecing together quilts that would cover her family with her love. She enjoyed baking and was well known for her homemade apple pies, attended the Church of Christ and was a lifetime resident of the area.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nelson Rife; sisters, Sara Stacy, Irene Cantrell, Melvine "Bird" McCoy; brothers, John and Junior Kennedy.
Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: her daughter, Reathel Carol Cantrell and husband Allen Wayne of Blountville, TN Sons, Robert Lee Rife and wife Evelyn of Pilgrims Knob, VA

Funeral services for Alice Ruth Rife will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, with Ministers Bob Smith and Dennis Wimmer officiating. Interment will follow at the Lester Family Cemetery on Panthers Ridge Rd in Bradshaw, West Virginia.
Active Pallbearers will be Jeff Cooper, Jimmy Stiltner, James Cantrell, James Riffe, James Lee Keen, Keith Kennedy and Darrell Cantrell.
The family will receive friends, Friday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA.
