JOLO, W.Va. - Mrs. Ida Bell Kennedy, 94, of the Compton Mountain section passed away Monday, July 15, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a long illness. Born in McDowell County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gus and Melvinia Mullins Wimmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kennedy; one son, James R. Kennedy; one daughter, Irene Cantrell; seven brothers, Ellis Wimmer, Wallace Wimmer, Columbus Wimmer, Homer Wimmer, Witcher Wimmer, Oscar Wimmer and Thomas Wimmer; and one sister, Eliza Wimmer Hagerman.
Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Maple Grove Church of Christ for 75 years.
Mrs. Kennedy is survived by four sons, John Kennedy of Jolo, Harold Kennedy of Paintlick, Va., Ernest Kennedy of Grundy and Hobert Kennedy of Grundy; three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Stacy of Partlow, Va., Mrs. Melvinia McCoy of Pilgrims Knob, Va., and Mrs. Ruth Rife of Pilgrims Knob; two brothers, Victor Wimmer of Blacksburg, Va., and Hobert Wimmer of Bradshaw, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Gracie Cooper of Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Ruby Harness of Atlanta; 31 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends and neighbors also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Preachers Burb Rife, Mike Trent and Bob Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodman Cemetery at the Compton Mountain section of Jolo. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
