Joan Burroughs was born on January 12, 1908, at the Park Avenue Hospital in Chicago,Illinois to Emma and Edgar Rice Burroughs.Her father was the renowned author of Tarzan and many other novels.Joan herself went on to write several novels of her own and also participated in the early radio shows of Tarzan with her future husband.Edgar Rice Burroughs had hand picked James Hubert Pierce to portray Tarzan.Joan was impressed with him so much that a relationship developed and they soon became married.Pierce was the first Tarzan and went on to star in other roles.
Joan continued as Jane in the Tarzan movies with her then husband James Pierce.Joan was married to James
Pierce for 40 years until her death in 1972.
Joan was cremated,her ashes placed in an urn and was interred at the Pierce family plot in Indiana.
