Born Frantisek Cerny in #3 Medovy Ujezd, Plzeň, Rokycany County, Bohemia, Czech Republic, son of Jakub Cerny and Veronika Štokrové, husband to Marije 'Mary' Mudrova, father of 14, 9 of whom survived to immigrate with him in 1882 to St. Ansgar, Iowa. Although his sons did not have middle names, in th U.S. they each seem to have taken the name of the preceding brother for a middle name. Some also added an E to the name making it Cerney because there were so many with the same names in the area, according to one of his grandsons. His descendants live all over the U.S. and Canada.
