"I have lots of articles from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 1905-1915 about the Neusteter Store in St. Louis, before it closed and everyone moved on to Denver. The Denver stores would grow and prosper. It appears they were a prominent Jewish family in St. Louis before relocating to Denver. The store founder, Meyer Neusteter, Abraham's son, is said to have had tuberculosis and relocated to Denver which was a beneficial climate for that ailment. The original St. Louis Neusteter store was sold in 1914 to a private retail group from the east. The Denver group of privately held Neusteter's specialty dry goods stores would grow into 9 locations but would close the last store in Denver's Cherry Creek Shopping Center in June, 1986.

The patriarch, Abraham Neusteter originally settled in Cincinnati before moving to St. Louis. He immigrated from Gorlitz, Austria. His daughter, Jenny Neusteter Cohen (d.1959) and her husband Edward Cohen are buried in Cincinnati Adath Israel Cemetery along with one of their sons Nelson J Cohen. The other sons are Cohan and moved to Denver, worked for Neusteter Dept Store and are buried in Denver.

I surmise that Abraham moved to St. Louis because his brother Harris was already living in St. Louis with his family." . END
