John Battle, 89, of Berlin Twp., passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, in Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation, Huron.
He was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Shinrock, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Berlin Heights High School. He worked for New Departure Hyatt, Sandusky, for 35 years retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II.
John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, all his life. He enjoyed farming, gardening, motorcycles, walking and bicycling, and going on day tour trips.
He is survived by his son, John C. (Jayne) Battle of Huron; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four nieces; and one nephew.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian M. Battle in 2010; a daughter, Caryl Battle Walker; and a sister, Jeanette Bartow.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron, with Rev. Jeffrey McBeth, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights.
