LeRoy V. Harris, 91, longtime Genesee, Idaho, service station owner, died of congestive heart failure Sunday at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho.

He was born Aug. 8, 1906, to Archie and Anna Downing Harris in Lewiston, Idaho. He was reared and educated in the Genesee area, graduating from Genesee High School. After high school, he moved to Seattle for a few years and worked as a bellhop for the Davenport Hotel. He moved back to Genesee and enrolled at the University of Idaho in Moscow. After a year and a half, school became too expensive and he was forced to drop out. He made ice cream at Smolts Ice Creamery in Genesee for a while.

Harris purchased the Genesee Texaco Service Station in 1936. A business he ran for more than 40 years. He married Florence Radar May 30, 1937, in Genesee. She owned and operated the Radar City Market with her brother in Genesee.

He was a charter member of the Genesee Medical/Dental Association, past president of the Genesee Civic Association and a member of the Moose Lodge in Moscow. He liked to hunt and fish and was an avid photographer. He also liked woodworking in his basement shop. He has been living at the Latah Care Center in Moscow for the past three years.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Zenner of Genesee; a son, Jade Harris of Oregon City, Ore.; two brothers, Robert and Richard Harris, both of Spokane; a sister, Genevieve Weeks of Renton, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 28, 1992, and by two sisters.

Viewing will be Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.
Funeral services will be at St. John's Lutheran Church in Genesee. Pastor Mike Swain will officiate. Burial will follow at the Genesee City Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to either the Genesee Fire Department or to St. John's Lutheran Church, Genesee.
