He was a Sheriffs Deputy in Lincoln County, New Mexico for just a few months. He was shot and killed by one of two men at age 30. He had stopped two men, one carrying a rifle. He had the rifle laid on the hood of his squad car. The two suspects were 16 yr old Louie Salandre and 40 yr. old Robert Elton Cox. The boy was an escapee from a New Mexico's Boys School, and the man was a drifter who had stolen a car. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun from his friends pocket, and shot him once. After Deputy Bedford fell, the man stood over him and shot him four more times. Both were captured and sentenced to life in prison. Deputy Bedford was survived by his wife Beverly and two children.
