Rose Buscemi
Resident of San Jose, CA
Rose (Rosina) was born to immigrants from the Potenza region of Southern Italy: Maria Domenica Alaggio Sorrention and Domenico Sorrentino in the lower Eastside of Manhattan, New York. At the age of 8, together with her parents and 5 siblings, she relocated to Brooklyn, where her mother owned and operated a small grocery store during the Great Depression. She commuted by subway back to the lower eastside where she attended high school at Seward Park High. Her beauty and charisma caught the eye of the love of her life, Jim Buscemi, at a local dance in Brooklyn in 1939. They were married after WWII on March 2, 1946, and had their first child one year later. Shortly thereafter, they moved to sunny San Jose, CA. where she and Jim had three additional children. Rose was content as a devoted wife of 68 years, loving mother and devoted grandmother. She enjoyed singing, dancing and playing cards with her longtime friends, "The Royal Flashes." She is well known for her abundant home style Italian cooking and relaxed, comfortable kitchen, where she has entertained a constant stream of countless family and friends. Rose passed away peacefully at home into the hands of Jesus Christ at the age of 93, surrounded by her beloved family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James Buscemi, and children Rosemary (Buscemi) and Louie Cabania, Jeanette (Buscemi) and KG Yama, Jim Buscemi and Gigi (Buscemi)and Michael Podlone, in addition to 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Rose has left and enduring legacy of unconditional love and acceptance for all.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday June 1, 2014, 3:30 p.m. @Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, 10100 N. Stelling Road, Cupertino, CA.
