Bishop George W. Bostic, 87, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.
Born February 2, 1926, in Union, W.Va., a son to the late James Edgar Bostic and Dolly Mae Canterbury Bostic.
Mr. Bostic was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He held positions as a mechanic and also a school bus driver for many years. He owned and operated Bostic Transmission in Beckley for years. He also was a pastor for many churches in West Virginia and was an Ordained Bishop and is a proud member of the Sophia Church of God. Mr. Bostic also served our country in the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons, Danny and Stephen Bostic; brother, Edgar Herford Bostic; and sisters, Frances and Mildred Dowdy.
Those surviving include his loving wife of 69 years, Mrs. Katherine E. Canterbury Bostic; son, James W. Bostic and wife Phyllis of Beckley; daughter, Virginia Ann Maynor of Crab Orchard; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; also a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other family.
Services to celebrate the life of Bishop George Bostic will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Sophia Church of God with Bishop James W. Bostic, Bishop F.D. Sexton, and Bishop Wayne Wicker officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Prosperity with the American Legion Honor Guard Post 32 conducting military graveside rites.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
A visitation was held on Saturday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Sophia Church of God.
