Leslie Alfred Turner, 100, former Thorp resident and Valley pioneer, died this week in Seattle where he has lived since 1964 with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Anderson.

Turner came west to Ellensburg in 1887 from Minnesota on horseback. He was born in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, August 18, 1870. After he finished school he moved to the west. He married Pearl Davison in 1896. They owned and operated several farms in the area until 1940 when they moved to California.

He was a grocer and hotel operator there as well as a fresh fruit stand. He moved his family back to Montana in 1906 where he was a stage coach driver. In 1907 they returned to Ellensburg and began farming. Mrs. Turner died in 1909. He moved to Thorp in 1911 and one year later he married Mrs. Ella Belbeck and continued farming. He operated a service station in West Seattle from 1928 until 1945 when he sold it and moved to Shelton where he and his wife lived until she died in 1951.

He is survived by seven children--Mrs. Ivor Carder and David Turner, Shelton; George Turner, Amity, Oregon; Mrs. Geneva Thomas, Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Viola Anderson and Rupert Belbeck, both of West Seattle; Mrs. John Fields, Thorp. A son, Alfred Turner, died in April 1970. Also 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren, and two nephews, John of Ellensburg and Frank Turner of Thorp. He was a member of the Thorp Christian Church.

Funeral will be Friday at Evenson Chapel at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Maurice Swisher officiating. Burial follows in IOOF Cemetery.
